ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School softball team swept all three of its games Saturday at the Eskymo Softball Challenge at Lemmerand Park. The Eskymos beat Marshfield, Wis., Neenah, Wis., and Sault Ste. Marie to end the day with a perfect record.
In the first game, Escanaba beat Marshfield, 12-2, in six innings. Mackenzie Leisner ended the game with a three-run homer, her second over-the-fence blast of the season.
In the second game, the Eskymos were frustrated for most of the way, getting numerous baserunners but unable to move them around.
Finally, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Taylor Segorski led off with a double. With one out, Callie Heller singled, but the Neenah center fielder was playing in, so the winning run did not score.
With two out and the bases loaded, Michelle LaFave ripped a single to left field to score Heller with the game-winning run, 2-1. Jayme Frappier earned the pitching win.
Later in the evening, the Eskymos beat Sault Ste. Marie, 8-2. Escanaba and Marquete were the only teams in the eight-team round-robin event to go undefeated.
Rapid River's first game went to the wire, but Neenah held on for the 6-5 win in a game that featured two teams with "Rockets" as their mascot.
In the afternoon, Rapid River got a first inning triple from Ericka Rubick, but could not bring her home against Sault Ste. Marie.
The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a hit by Jenna Holt, and that was enough for pitcher Kylie Thompson as the Soo knocked off the Rockets, 4-0.
