END OF THE LINE: Eskymos Fall In Quarterfinals

MT. PLEASANT---A successful season came to an end for the Escanaba High School softball team on Tuesday. The girls ran into a tough Frankenmuth team in the MHSAA Division Two state quarterfinals, and lost, 6-0, at Central Michigan University.

Eagles pitcher Amariah Wright was dominant in the circle, firing a two-hitter and allowing a total of three Eskymo baserunners in a complete-game performance.

The only Eskymos to reach base were Michelle LaFave and J.J. Laviolette (both on doubles), and Becca Piron (on a seventh inning walk). None of the girls came close to scoring against Wright.

Kayla Brooks had a two-run single in the first inning off of Eskymo pitcher Jaymie Frappier, and then Brooks doubled home another run in the third inning to make it a 3-0 game.

In the sixth inning, Wright helped her own cause with a two-run single to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead. Carmen Izzo's RBI single in the sixth made it a 6-0 final.

Wright threw all seven innings for Frankenmuth, striking out nine batters.

Escanaba finished the season with a 27-9 record. Frankenmuth is now 36-3.
