GLADSTONE---The Escanaba High School volleyball team struggled to find much momentum Saturday as the girls played at "The Rock" Invitational in Gladstone.
The Eskymos lost their first three matches, then managed to rally for a tie against Norway in the final match of the day. Escanaba fell to Gwinn, 2-0 (23-25, 18-25) and then lost to Marquette in a long match (24-26, 15-25). In the third pool play match, Escanaba lost to Houghton, 2-0 (15-25, 19-25). Then the Eskymos tied Norway, 1-1 (16-25, 25-22).
"We decided to have a little bit of energy there at the end," Eskymo Coach Theresa Heidt said. "But we just lost all communication today. There was a lack of communication, and our hitting just was not 'on'. We just didn't have any energy on the court."
Escanaba's Ashley Cook was named to the All-Tournament team.
