ESCANABA----The Escanaba High School volleyball team won for a second straight night on Tuesday, turning back Iron Mountain in a five-set marathon, 3-2.
The Eskymos lost the first game, 25-23, but then won the next two by comortable margins, 25-17 and 25-11. But the Mountaineers regrouped to win the fourth set, 25-17, forcing a decisive fifth game. Escanaba won that battle, 15-7, and picked up a second straight win for new Coach Christa Erickson.
The match was played under hot, humid conditions inside the Escanaba High School Gym.
The back doors were opened and a large fan was used, but it had little effect.
Escanaba is off until Tuesday, Sept. 3, when the girls travel to Negaunee. The next Eskymo home match is on Thursday, Sept. 5 against Menominee.
