GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School volleyball team welcomed Jess Beaudry back into the line-up Tuesday night as the Braves hosted the Menominee Maroons.
She had a good night, but it wasn't enough to lead the Braves to victory. Beaudry had 22 kills and 17 digs, but the Maroons won the match, three games to two.
The Braves won the first game, 25-23. But they lost the next two, 25-19 and 25-17. Gladstone rallied to win the fourth set, 25-17, but in the fifth and deciding game, the Maroons earned the Great Northern Conference victory, 15-13.
"I hate to loss this type of a match," Gladstone Coach Liz Gendron said. "We definately beat ourselves. We had too many unforced errors, mainly by poor serving."
Lexi Hongisto had 23 digs and eight kills for the Braves, and Summer Demeuse also had 23 digs and contributed four digs. Hongisto and Callie Jensen each had two service aces.
But the Braves had 15 service errors and 27 attack errors: 42 missed points.
"We didn't take advantage of the numerous freeballs that were given to us," Gendron said. "We need to read and react a lot faster, and more efficiently."
Gladstone's best game was in the fourth game, when the Braves had 14 kills and only one attack error. But the girls had five attack errors in the deciding fifth set.
The Braves play at Stephenson Thursday night.
