MILWAUKEE---Adam Hamari will get his big chance when the Milwaukee Brewers host the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night at Miller Park.
The Marquette man will be one of the umpires for the three-game series, and it will be his first time on the field as a Major League Baseball umpire.
Hamari has worked his way up the ranks rather quickly, and will be making his Major League debut at the young age of 30. But he has a lot of experience on the field, having spent the last eight years as a Minor League Baseball umpire.
Of those eight years, he has spent the last three in the AAA International League, which is the top level of baseball in the minor leagues. He has also officiated Major League Spring Training games, including one this spring in Washington, D.C. (pictured above).
Hamari is a Marquette High School graduate who played on the Marquette Senior Little League All-Star state championship team in 1999. He played on that team in the Central Regional Tournament in Peru, Ill., and then returned to that same tournament in 2003 as an umpire. That year, Gladstone was the Michigan champion and played there.
Hamari is also a Northern Michigan University graduate. He also did some radio broadcasting while he was in school, and then attended numerous umpire camps and schools to learn the trade.
Over the years, Hamari has ump'd in leagues all over the country, from the New York-Pennsylvania League to others in California, Florida, and Arizona.
In the baseball off-season, Hamari has come back to the Upper Peninsula, officiating high school football and basketball games in the fall and winter.
The Milwaukee-Chicago games are set for Tuesday night at 8:10 E.T., Wednesday night at 8:10 E.T., and Thursday afternoon at 2:10 E.T. Wednesday's game is being broadcast on WGN. You will need a satellite dish or MLB Extra Innings to see the other games.
