ON TOP AGAIN!!! Vuksan, Braves Win Track Title
 KINGSFORD---Last year's "disappointing" second place finish at the MHSAA's Upper Peninsula Track & Field Finals is now a distant memory for the Gladstone Braves. The boys turned in a rather dominating performance this time, rolling to the Division One team championship....32 points clear of second place Menominee. The Braves did it with their usual reliance on points from the field events, and they were led by "Mr. Reliable" Jared Vuksan, who broke the Upper Peninsula record in the shot put (55 feet, 11.25 inches). Vuksan also won the discus, and was fourth in the long jump. Gladstone's other "Mr. Reliable" is Justin Pederson. He easily won the long jump, with a top jump of just over 21 feet. He finished a close second in the 100 meter dash, and Pederson easily won the high jump....clearing the bar at 6 feet, 3 inches. Gladstone won with 112 points while Menominee, led by Bryan Hines in the two hurdles events, ended up with 80. Kingsford was third and Marquette was fourth. The Escanaba Eskymos finished a respectable fifth with 55 points. The Eskymo 3200 meter relay team of Jordan Ogren, Eric Cousineau, Andrew Stenberg, and Jake Walker won by a fraction of a second over Marquette's team. Cousineau also won the 3200 run, with Stenberg finishing in third place. In the girls D-1 meet, Marquette turned in a dominating performance, with 145 points. Negaunee was a distant second with 62.5 points. Escanaba was third with 54 points. Marquette freshman Lindsey Rudden did what she normally does, winning the 800, 1600, 3200, and anchoring the winning 3200 relay team. For Escanaba, there were no U.P. champions, but plenty of girls placing in the top four to earn points. Gladstone's Jessica Young won the discus.
