NMU Hockey Bounces Back To Earn Split In Ohio

(NMU Photo) SATURDAY GAME RECAP BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. - The NMU hockey team earned a split on the road on the back of a two-goal second period, defeating the Bowling Green Falcons by a score of 2-0. Two goals in the second period, one from Connor Eddy and Michael Colella, proved to be enough to get the Wildcats over the Falcons in game two of the weekend series. Eddy scored a short-handed breakaway, and Michael Colella cashed in on the man advantage. Both Andre Ghantous and Kristof Papp earned assists. Beni Halasz earned his fourth career shutout and first of the season after stopping all 30 shots sent his way. It was a successful evening for the special teams units, as the 'Cats went 1/4 on the PP and 3/3 on the PK, including the short-handed tally from Eddy. The 'Cats won 32 faceoffs to BGSUs 26, led by Papp's extraordinary night in the circle, winning 16 of 24. The Wildcats now improve to 6-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 (12 pts) in CCHA play, and the Falcons fall to 4-10-0 overall and 2-4-0 (7 pts) in CCHA play.

The Wildcats trailed 1-0 after the first period, but were then sprung ahead with two goals from Artem Shlaine and Michael Colella in the second period, giving the 'Cats a 2-1 lead going into the final frame. Five-straight Falcon goals proved too much for the 'Cats, and the green and gold dropped game one of the weekend series by a score of 6-2. The Wildcats fall to 5-7-1 overall and 3-4-0 (9 pts) in CCHA play, and the Falcons improve to 4-9-0 overall and 2-3-0 (7 pts) in CCHA play.
