NORWAY---
Alex Ortman struck out eleven batters and pitched a complete game as the Norway Vikings American Legion Baseball team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Marquette Blues, 5-4, Wednesday night in Norway.

After a scoreless first two innings, Marquette took a 4-0 lead in the third inning on Easton Miller's two-run double, and a third run scored on that play on a throwing error. Gibby Jezewski's ground out plated the Blues' fourth run, and it was a comfortable lead behind ace pitcher Isaac Sarles.

But in the bottom of the inning, things turned around. Jake Baciak drew a lead-off walk, and then Hayden Amundson put down a nice bunt that Sarles bobbled. Evan Haferkorn took advantage of that error with an RBI single to put the Vikings on the board.

Michael Peterson followed with a clutch two-run single to make it 4-3, and then Ortman tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

In the fourth inning, Marquette got a one-out single from Jake Toyras, but Ortman picked him off with a throw to first on the next play.

The bottom of the fourth saw Brent Lagina get robbed of a bunt single on a nice play by A.J. Martin at third base, but Carson Chartier drew a walk and stole second. Marquette catcher Keith Judici tried to pick Chartier off at second base, but he threw it away into center field for his second error of the game. That's how the go-ahead run scored.

That was plenty for Ortman, who was just overpowering with his fastball. He allowed only one baserunner over the final three innings, striking out four of them, and inducing a pair of fly balls to Hayden Amundson in right field during the sixth inning.

Ortman wound up throwing 103 pitches, striking out eleven batters, pitching around four walks, and allowing just four Marquette hits.

Dakota Maki took the loss for Marquette in relief, giving up two hits and that one unearned run in 2 1/3 innings. Sarles got a no-decision, charged with four runs (three earned) in three hits in three innings. Brenten Balenger got the final two outs.

Marquette fell to 8-6 on the season while Norway, coming off a stinging one-run loss to Niagara in Sunday's Felch Tournament Championship game, improved to 9-5.

Norway will face Niagara again this Sunday in the Vikings' final home games of the season. Marquette, meanwhile, will play in a tournament this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.

NORWAY JUNIORS WIN---The Norway Junior Team smacked the Gladstone Junior Indians 12-1 as Cole Baij threw a complete game. He also had a two-run hit, as did Landon Amundson. Gladstone's only run scored on a base hit by Cooper Sanville.
