Escanaba, Menominee Wrap Up Legion Road Trip
SAULT STE. MARIE---The Escanaba Cubs and Menominee Red Wave finished their road trip on Sunday with single games in Sault Ste. Marie, after each team played three games in Gaylord. The Menominee Red Wave beat the Eastern U.P. Wood Ducks, 8-2, to finish their weekend with a 3-1 record. The Red Wave scored five runs in the second inning on RBI hits by Wyatt Riley and Adrian Mercier (two RBI) and on an RBI grounder by Zach Starzynski. Mercier ended up reaching base four times, and he added a SAC fly. Starzynski pitched all six innings, allowing two runs on ten hits. The Red Wave are now 8-11-0 on the season. The Escanaba Cubs then lost to te Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario) Black Sox, 702. The Black Sox scored four runs in the first inning off Cubs starter Ben Johnson. Johnson threw four innings and Trent Turchin tossed one scoreless inning in relief. Jack McEvers drove in both Escanaba runs with a single and a double. Keyton Mousseau drove in three runs for the Soo. Escanaba fell to 8-8 on the season. The Black Sox are 3-13-1. The Cubs had only nine players on the trip, and lost pitcher Hunter Lancour to a severe leg injury on Saturday. Escanaba "borrowed" Menominee's Spencer Coldren for the last two days of the trip in order to be able to play. The Cubs and Red Wave shared a charter bus for the trip. |
