Frossard, Gladstone Hold Off Bark River-Harris 5-4
BARK RIVER---Freshman pitcher Gavin Frossard served up a double play grounder to help the Gladstone Braves survive a Bark River-Harris walk-off bid, winning 5-4, Monday, at the Bark River Township Fields. BR-H also lost to the Braves JV team, 10-9. The Broncos opened the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back singles from Dom Langtagne and Joe Javurek, but Frossard was able to get Travis Mack to pop up into foul territory for the first out. Then, Ethan Ives hit a 1-0 pitch to third baseman Braden Sundquist, who touched the bag and then threw across the diamond for the 5-3 double play to end it. Frossard ended up throwing three shutout innings, with three strikeouts and no walks. He ended up with the pitching victory, after starting pitcher Tyler Darmogray gave up four runs on seven hits in three innings. He left trailing the game, 4-3. Both teams scored runs in the first inning, then the Broncos took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Darmogray walked Travis Mack with the bases loded. Darmogray stranded the bases loaded, however, when he got Ives to ground out to end the second inning. BR-H added two runs in the third inning when they loased the bases with no outs on two hits and an error. Charlie Guenette then singled to center field, scoring one run, and the bases were still loaded with no outs. Darmogray was able to keep it 4-1, however, when he struck out Andon Metzer and Lantagne, and then Javurek popped up to end the inning. That kept Gladstone in the game against the Broncos' pitching ace, Mack. But Mack ran into control troubles in the fourth inning as he walked Hunter Solis and John Soderman, and Aeden Creten got a pop fly base hit to load the bases. Gladstone got two runs on sacrifice flies by Darmogray and Sundquist. In the fifth inning, the Braves took the lead when Frossard walked and Casey Alworden got a one-out single. Austin Bagwell came through with a two-run single on a line drive to center field. Gladstone improved to 17-5-1 on the season, while BR-H fell to 11-12-0. |
