Gladstone Cruises To Regional Track Title

GLADSTONE----The Gladstone High School boys track team dominated its five other opponents on Thursday, winning the MHSAA Division One regional championship at the Marble Athletic Field. Gladstone won with 62.5 points.

Marquette was second with 46.5, and Menominee was a distant third place with 31 points. Justin Pederson won both the high jump and long jump, and was part of a winning relay team. Jared Vuksan broke a school record in the shot put (50'7").

And Gladstone's depth in the sprints led to points across the board.

In the girls meet, Marquette was the runaway winner, with 69 points. Escanaba was second with 36 points and Menominee was third with 31.

Manistique and Sault Ste. Marie also competed in this Divison One Regional.

Individually, in most events, the top four finishers advanced to the Upper Peninsula Finals, scheduled for Kingsford High School in two weeks. The other D-1 regional was held in Negaunee on Thursday. Houghton squeeked out the win in the boys meet, and Negaunee was the winner in the girls meet.
