The Escanaba Eskymos and Gladstone Braves earned volleyball victories in conference match-ups Tuesday night. Escanaba won a GNC match in Menominee, 3-0, on scores of 25-7, 25-21, and 25-15. Gladstone won an MPC match at home against Negaunee, 3-1, on scores of 25-13, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-18. Also Tuesday, Bark River-Harris fell to Norway, 3-1 (18-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 14-25), and Carney-Nadeau swept Superior Central, 3-0.

Homecoming Week began in Gladstone Monday night with a pair of girls Powder Puff football games. The sophomores beat the freshmen, 24-8. Maddie Ahlgren, Taelor Zeise, and Jenna Tardiff scored touchdowns for the sophomores. Amber King scored for the freshmen. In the second game, the seniors beat the juniors, 12-6. Chasey Williams had the winner and Kaylin Holden also scored for the Class of 2018. Sammie Shalifoe found the end zone for the juniors. The boys play Sault Ste. Marie on Friday.
Ten high school volleyball teams got together for the Redette Rumble tournament on Saturday in Marquette. The host Redettes beat Gwinn in the final. The Great Northern and Mid Peninsula Conferences held their girls tennis championships on Wednesday as scattered thunderstorms rolled through the Upper Peninsula. In Escanaba, Marquette won the GNC title, with West Iron County second and Menominee third. In Iron Mountain, not all of the matches were finished, but Negaunee clinched the Mid Pen title, with Westwood due to finish second and Gladstone to take third. The meet will be finished on Thursday. The Eskymos visit Marquette on Thursday while the Braves are idle. Also on Tuesday, Mid Peninsula beat North Central, 3-0, and Munising topped Rapid River, 3-0.

The North Central High School football team broke its two-game losing streak Saturday with a 76-8 win over the Baldwin Panthers in Pickford. Hunter Riley threw three touchdown passes and ran in another score. Lucas Dombrowski returned a fumble for a touchdown. Austin Paupore also scored for the Jets. NCA (2-2) led, 60-0, at the half.

The Rapid River High School football team improved to 4-0 on the season with a dramatic 26-22 win over the Ontonagon Gladiators Friday in Rapid River. Sam Orth intercepted a pass and returned it deep into Ontonagon territory late in the fourth quarter, and then on a 4th-and-7 play, Brent Sundquist tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Logan Hardwick to take the lead for good. The Rockets face Carney-Nadeau next week.
The Escanaba High School football team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 45-28 win over the Marquette Redmen Friday night in Escanaba. Logan Carroll ran for more than 200 yards and scored four touchdowns. His TD's all came on long runs of 66, 62, 34, and 33 yard scampers. Craig Kamin threw a 30-yard touchdown to Ryan Robinette, Cody Vandermissen scored on a short run, and Christer Carne kicked a field goal.
