Escanaba Tennis Team Cruises To Win Over Munising
ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School tennis team won three singles and three doubles matches to beat the Munising Mustangs, 6-2, Monday on a windy day.
Jordan Lombardo led the way for Escanaba at #1 singles, dominating Munising's Joel Schramm, 6-0, 6-0. And it was a marathon at the end of the #2 doubles match, as Escanaba's Ben Larsen and Alec Slaga defeated Munising's Ian McInnis and Mike Graves, 10-5, in the third set. The two teams had split 6-3 sets before that. "We played well," Esacanaba Coach Jim Hansen said. "Conditions were less than optimal today with really fast cross winds. Our kids played through it well and kept it simple." "I was very happy with how 'two doubles' responded after dropping the first set," Hansen said of Larsen and Slaga. "Lombardo was excellent, like he has been all season." Munising also played Iron Mountain on Escanaba's court, and lost, 6-2. "A big thank you to Munising for sticking around and playing us when they weren't supposed to," Hansen said. The Eskymos will travel to Marquette on Tuesday for a dual meet, and then will return to Marquette on Thursday for the Great Northern Conference Meet. Monday's results: Escanaba 6, Munising 2
