Schwalbach Has Big Night As Gladstone JV's Roll

GLADSTONE---Ben Schwalbach threw three touchdown passes and ran in another score to lead the Gladstone High School junior varsity football team to a 53-19 win over Sault Ste. Marie Thursday night in Gladstone.

The JV Braves were able to do pretty much what they wanted to do on offense all night long.

The team cruised to victory despite having numerous high snaps over Schwalbach's head. In one case, that problem led the Braves into a rare 4th-and-48 situation.

Schwalbach hooked up with Jeff Stenson for a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter.

The first was a 25-yard strike on fourth down, and the other was a 77-yard throw and catch on third and 18. In the second quarter, Casey Wolf had a 20-yard touchdown run, and then late in the second quarter, Schwalbach did a back-flip for a touchdown to make it 27-0.

Schwalbach's third touchdown pass went to Noah Olsen.

In the second half, Owen Hanson scored on a 70-yard run, and Alex Chouinard also scored on a 70-yard running play.

Schwalbach-to-Stenson TD #1
Perhaps the highlight of the game came very late, as big Trent Marenger got the ball on a Sault squib kick. He took it to the house for a touchdown that made everyone cheer.

Mason Frederick contributed a blocked punt in the second quarter, and the Braves got pass interceptions from Kyle Darmogray and Hanson.

Gladstone's JV's improved to 3-3 on the season, after going 0-9 at this level last year.

The Braves will travel to Escanaba to face the Eskymos next Thursday night. That game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600) and on rrnsports.com starting at 5:45.
