Gladstone Volleyball 'Flat' In Match At Menominee
MENOMINEE---The Gladstone High School volleyball team had a tough time getting much going Tuesday in a Great Northern Conference match in Menominee, falling 3-1. The scores were 25-13, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21, in favor of the Maroons. "We were totally unfocused tonight," Gladstone Coach Liz Gendron said. "Servers were not hitting their spots, and we had way too many mental breakdowns on the floor." The Braves were led by Lexi Hongisto's 12 kills, nine digs, and three service aces. Maddie Bailey added four kills and three digs. Zoie Berg had eight defensive digs, and Kelsey Fournier contributed seven digs. But Coach Gendron wants to see more improvement. "By now, everyone should know their responsibilities but yet we are still watching the ball hit the floor," the veteran coach said. "Menominee had some tough serves, but we should be able to pass the majority of them, at least straight-up, to get a second touch on them." Despite the disappointment, Gendron knows that it is still fairly early in the season, ans he has a roster filled with young players. No time to give up, she says. "We will keep working hard in the gym, and hope it all clicks together soon." Gladstone hosts Stephenson Thursday night as Homecoming Week continues.
