Eskymos Win Tightly-Contested Match Over Braves
GLADSTONE---The Escanaba Eskymos beat the Gladstone Braves for the third time in less than a week in volleyball, posting a 3-1 win Thursday night in Gladstone. Three of the four sets were decided by two points in Thursday's match. The Eskymos also beat the Braves twice last Saturday at the shortened Rock Invitational event. Thursday's scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23, in favor of the Eskymos. "Soooo close," Gladstone Volleyball Coach Liz Gendron said. "Our missed serves really hurt us. We could not stop there top server (Alyssa Polequin). She has a great serve and we really struggled to pass it." Gladstone's Lexi Hongisto led the way with a "double-double" (19 kills, 21 digs). "Lexi played her heart out," Gendron said. "She really has taken her play to the top. If we could just get her the ball in a more consistant tempo she would be a huge threat from any rotation." But, alas for the Braves, it was in a losing effort.
