MARQUETTE---The Gladstone High School wrestling team won the Upper Peninsula championship on Saturday, with four wrestlers taking first place, and six others also making the podium. The Braves won the Duval Trophy, named after the legendary Escanaba High School wrestling coach, given every year to the U.P. team champion.

Gladstone took the team championship with 224 points. Escanaba was second with 147, Sault Ste, Marie took third with 139, and Marquette was fourth with 132 points.

Individually, the Braves had four champions: Nate Beauchamp at 150 pounds, Jack Taylor in the 165 weight class, and Ben Wilson in the 215-pound weight class.

Senior Trevor Thorbahn, one of the state's top wrestlers in the 195-pound weight class last season, decided to “wrestle-up” on Saturday and enter into the heavyweight “285” bracket. Thorbahn gave up 35, 45, and 80 pounds to his competitors, and he beat them all, including Kingsford's Connor White, with a pin in less than a minute.
