ESCANABA---The Gladstone High School boys basketball team used a huge second quarter to open up a 20-point halftime lead, and the Braves never looked back, beating the Escanaba Eskymos, 67-48, in a rivalry battle at the Escanaba High School Gym.

It was a dream-come-true night for Braves junior Lonnie Davey, as he drained ten triples and scored a career-high 36 points. Sophomore Alex Prins also chipped in 21 points for a one-two punch that many teams don't have. And with both being underclassmen, the Braves should have them far into the future.

Gladstone led, 15-7, after the first quarter, then held a 39-19 lead at halftime.

Escanaba got 18 points from Lenny Peacock and 15 points from Braden Cooper in a losing effort.6

Davey scored 20 of his 36 points in the first half.

The Braves improved to 4-2 on the season, after suffering heartbreaking last-minute losses to Ishpeming and Marquette. The Eskymos fell to 2-3 on the season.

Gladstone returns to action on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 at a tournament in Marinette, Wis. Both Gladstone games will be broadcast live on FM-93.5 and AM-600, with Mike Pankow at the mic.

Escanaba will travel downstate on Tuesday for a game against Saginaw Swan Valley before the two-week holiday break begins.
