EMERALDS SURVIVE: Manistique Volleyball Outlasts Gwinn To Win District

GWINN---The Manistique High School volleyball team Division Three district championship Thursday night, but the Emeralds did it the hard way. The girls beat the Gwinn Model Towners, 3 sets to 2, in a nailbiter that took some two hours to play.

It was back-and-forth all night, with the Emeralds winning the first set, 25-15, before Gwinn took the second set, 25-16. Manistique won the third set, 25-20, but the Model Towners stayed alive in the fourth set, 25-15. Manistique rebounded to win the fifth set, 15-11. The Emeralds improved their record to 18-11-3 on the season and will play either Painesdale-Jeffers or West Iron County. and that match is scheduled for Tuesday night, right back in Gwinn. The Model Towners finished their season with an 11-14-2 record.
