Bay College Volleyball Wins Marathon Match In Saginaw

The Bay College Norse volleyball team found itself in a close battle all night long as they pulled off a 3-2 victory over the Delta College Pioneers Monday night. The Norse took the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 28-26 before dropping the next two (26-28 and 20-25).  They were able to come through in the end with a 15-9 win in the final set.

The Norse came out with a high energy attack that propelled them to a win in the first set.  Delta committed ten attack errors in that set, allowing the Norse to win by their most comfortable margin of the night.

The energy persisted throughout the match and the Norse needed it to make a comeback in the second set.  They took a late lead and held on for a tight victory.  Bay used that momentum to build a lead in the third, but Delta made an adjustment, utilizing a tip at the net, and the Norse were not able to counter in enough time.

The Pioneers used a couple of big runs to take the fourth set and steal the momentum going into the fifth and final set.

The Norse were down 7-4 when Ava Maki (FR, Marquette, MI) took the serve.  The Norse took the lead as the teams switch ends by a score of 8-7.  Maki continued to put pressure on the Pioneers with her serves and Delta was not able to get a side out until the score was 13-7.  The two teams traded points to finish out the set and the Norse ended up taking the match 3-2.

The Norse return home for their next action and will host perennial powerhouses Muskegon Community College and Grand Rapids Community College. On Friday the match against the Jayhawks from Muskegon will begin at 6:30 pm.  On Saturday the Grand Rapids CC Raiders match will get started at 1 pm.
