WVU shot 18 under par in the first round, and then followed that up with a school-record 22 under par, finishing with a 40-under par 536. The West Virginia University golf team shot a school record 22-under-par for a 266, also a program best, while sophomore Ryan Leach tied a school-best mark at -9 in the first round on the first day of the fall season at the Island Resort Collegiate at Sage Run Golf Club in Bark River, Michigan.

Note: Due to a scoring error, Jack Michael's score was adjusted after round one and the Mountaineers posted a 266 (-22), not 267 (-21).

Leach stands in first place in the tournament after two rounds at -16 after posting rounds of -9 (63) and -7 (65) and is five shots ahead of three golfers in the field. Leach's -9 ties the school record for the lowest round in school history in relation to par. Mark Goetz shot -9 in the final round of the 2021 Mountaineer Invitational. Leach's 63 was one stroke shy of Logan Perkins' 62 at the Florida Gators Invitational in 2020. Perkins shot a school-record 62 on a par-70 course.
The Mountaineers are in first place in the team standings at -40 (266-270), five shots ahead of Purdue in the 12-team field. In the first round, WVU shot a school record -22, besting the previous mark of -17, set at the Dorado Beach Collegiate (2023-24) and Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate (2021-22).

WVU's 266 score in round one bested the school records of 271 set at the Dorado Beach Collegiate (2023-24), Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate (2021-22) and the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic (2018-19).

Leach and three of his Mountaineer teammates are in the Top 10 of the individual standings. Sophomore Nick Turowski is in sixth place at -9 after posting rounds of -6 (66) and -3 (69). Senior Kaleb Wilson is in seventh place at -8 after recording rounds of -3 (69) and -5 (67). Michael, playing in his first collegiate event, shot -4 (68) and -3 (69) and is in ninth place at -7. Junior Harrison Thompson recorded rounds of 74 and 72. Senior Westy McCabe is playing as an individual and shot rounds of -2 (70) and -2 (70), standing in 20th place.

In total today, West Virginia recorded 10 eagles and 50 birdies among all six golfers.

The Purdue men’s golf turned it on in round two and sits in second place after 36 holes at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, held at Sage Run Golf Club in Bark River, Michigan.

The Boilermakers fired a two-round total of 35-under par 541 on rounds of 277 and 264. The 264 is the lowest 18-hole team score in Purdue history, bettering the mark of 266 set almost 10 years ago at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in October of 2015.

However, even with the record-breaking round, the Boilermakers must rally if they hope to win the first tournament of the year. Purdue trails West Virginia by five shots after the Mountaineers totaled a 40-under par 536 (266-270). Saint Mary’s is in third place, 10 shots behind Purdue at 25-under par 551.

Purdue’s five players all shot 70 or better in round two and the Boilermakers recorded 31 birdies against just five bogeys in the second round.

For the two rounds, Purdue managed 53 birdies against just 16 bogeys and no holes of double-bogey or worse.

Leading the charge were a pair of freshmen. Redshirt freshman Andre Zhu, a transfer from South Carolina, is tied for second at 11-under par 133 (68-65). Zhu played the two rounds with just one bogey and had 12 birdies in 36 holes, including seven birdies with no bogeys in the second round. His second-round 65 is tied for the 11th-lowest round in Purdue history and is now the second-best round by a freshman in school history.

Zhu’s round is the second-lowest by a freshman, because Will Harvey bested him by one shot in the second round. Harvey, a freshman from Westfield, Indiana, and the 2025 Indiana state champion, is in fifth place at 10-under par 134 (70-64). After a slow start with two bogeys in his first three holes, Harvey recorded 12 birdies in his final 28 holes with no holes above par.

His 64 is tied for the fourth-lowest round in Purdue history and the lowest by a freshman.

Sam Easterbrook is in the hunt for another top-10 finish, sitting in ninth at 7-under par 137 (71-66). Easterbrook started round two with a flurry, posting birdies on four of his first five holes.

Kentaro Nanayama (69-70) and Supapon Amornchaichan (70-69) are tied for 16th at 5-under par 139.

After dusting off with an even-par performance in the first round, the UCF men's golf team found its stride during the second 18 holes, carding an 18-under-par 270 to jump into fifth ahead of tomorrow's finale. Competing at the Sage Run Golf Club, the Knights were aided by a steady day from junior Clemente Silva. The Chilean authored a pair of three-under-par rounds to lead the Black and Gold, along with keeping him among the leading back in 12th.

While individual Palmer Haynes was the only other Knight to shoot under par during the opening 18 holes, each of the starting lineup did so to conclude the day.

Hans Risvaer flipped the script to lead the squad in the second round, carding a six-under-par 66 to move back to even overall. Freshman Jakub Hejlek settled in well, shooting a 67 to finish Sunday four-under-par.

Premier returners Lucas Dutartre (-3) and Chase Haygood (-2) did their part to complete the 180 for UCF. Now just three back of Michigan, the Knights will look to fend off the strong field and continue their climb up the rankings.

Redbird senior TJ Barger (-7) and sophomore Max Faucquez (-5) are each under par after the first two rounds at the 2025 Island Resort Intercollegiate, and the Redbirds – at six under par for the day – are in 10th place with 18 holes to play in the tournament.

West Virginia leads the field after two rounds with a 536 (-40), with Purdue (541), St. Mary's (551), Michigan (555), and Michigan State (559) rounding out the top five. UCF (559), Nebraska (560), South Dakota State (562), and UTEP (563) are all just ahead of the Redbirds' 569. Ball State (573), and Miami (Ohio) (573) round out the 11 schools in the tournament field.

Barger was under par in each of the rounds on the opening day, starting with a one-under 71, and coming back with a six-under 66 on his second time around the course. The 66 is tied for the 19th-lowest single-round in program history, and he is tied for ninth in the field through 36 holes.

Against a field comprised of annual NCAA regional competitors, Ball State's men's golf team shaved four strokes off their first-round score but couldn't keep pace with a fast field on the first day of the Island Resort Intercollegiate at Sage Run Golf Course in Northern Michigan.

The Cardinals were led by freshmen Luke Johnston (69-75--144) and Samuel Harris (70-74--144), and a late surge by senior Carter Smith (77-68--145). Harris shot 2-under and 2-over to finish even for the day. Johnston shot 3-under for the club's best score in the opening round, and senior Carter Smith (77-68--145) rallied with a 4-under score in Round 2 - using four birdies on the back nine to rebound from an uncharacteristic +5 outing in the first round. Sophomore returner Happy Gilmore (75-70--145) finished tied with Smith overall, firing two shots under par in Round 2 to counter a slow first round, himself.

"There were lots of low, low scores today!," exclaimed Ball State coach Mike Fleck. "And Carter had a great rebound round to finish the day."

Junior transfer Cameron Young (75-73--148) celebrated his birthday while making his Cardinals debut and shooting +3 and +1 over both rounds. Sophomore Gavin Hare (73-71--144), playing as an individual in the season's opening tournament, birdied two of his last three holes to finish both rounds even on the par-72, 7,375-yard layout and match the scores by Johnston and Harris.

Overall, the Cardinals (574) finished three strokes behind Mid-American Conference rival Miami (571), and couldn't master the blazing fast track with the success of West Virginia (536), Purdue (541), St. Mary's (551) and Michigan (555) who all shot at least 20-under-par as a team. Nine of the 12 teams fired 36-hole scores of -10 or better. The Cardinals finished the day at 2-under par, in 12th place - five strokes behind the Redbirds of Illinois State (569) and three behind the Redhawks from Miami.
