GLADSTONE---
The Escanaba 11u Little League All-Star softball team advanced to the state semifinals on Sunday with a 12-1 win over Taylor North.

Marquette also advanced in the six-team field with a 6-4 win over Sparta.

Ava Jackson pitched all six innings for Escanaba, striking out 14 batters and allowing only three base hits. Hannah Trombley had three hits and two runs batted in at the plate.

The run that Taylor North scored in the fourth inning was the first run Escanaba has allowed in the three games so far in the tournament.

Brynn Lucas had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored three times for Escanaba.

"Our pitching has been spot on," Escanaba Manager Todd Milkiewicz said. "Ava Jackson has done a great job. Our hitting has come around really well. We don't have a weak spot. Our left-handed slap-hitter does a great job. It's just been a good run. We've had a lot of luck. I have a great bunch of kids and good parents. They're very coachable."

Escanaba faces Sparta in the state semifinals at 10:00 Monday at Gladstone High School. At the same time, Marquette will take on St. Clair. The championship game is set for 1:00.
