NMU Men's Golf Team Wins Tourney, Sets Records

Canton, OHIO - 
The Northern Michigan University men's golf team traveled to Canton, Ohio, to compete in the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University at the Glenmoore Country Club, a 6854-yard par 72 course.

The Wildcats finished first of ten teams, posting a team score of +4 (580) over two rounds. Malone University finished second at +12 (588), and Malone University (B) claimed bronze at +23 (599).

The Wildcats had one of its best outings in program history, with its 18-hole team score of 290 second all-time, its 36-hole 580 is first all-time, Eric Yun's single round of 68 is the third-best all-time along with his combined 18-hole 142 being second-best all-time, and Russel Sprecher's 18-hole 144 will move to fourth all-time for the Wildcats in program history.

Eric Yun led the way for the 'Cats, shooting a round one -4 (68) with five birdies, good for first overall of all athletes in round one, and a round two 74 (+2) to finish T1 individually over two rounds at -2. Yun played the par 4s second best of anyone on the field, averaging 3.90 strokes and scoring -2, as well as shooting two under on the par 5s while averaging 4.75 strokes. Yun was T4 in pars with 24 and T7 in birdies with seven. 

Russel Sprecher finished fourth of all student athletes after rounds of 71 and 73, shooting even par over two rounds. Sprecher played the par 3s third best on the field by averaging 3.00 strokes (E), played the par 4s fourth best at 4.10 average (+2), and played the par 5s at 4.75 (-2). Sprecher recorded the second most birdies on the field with eight. 

Tyler Annala (75, 72) and Walter Ylitalo (76, 71) both finished T6 at +3 individually. Annala averaged 4.75 strokes on the par 5s (-2) and recorded the most birdies on the field with nine, and Ylitalo played the par 3s best  on the field averaging 2.88 strokes (-1), along with a 4.63 average (-3) on the par 5s and recording six birdies on the tournament.
