Rapid River Softball Loses To Munising In Districts

BARK RIVER---The Rapid River High School girls softball season came to an end in the districts for the second straight year on Friday, as the Rockets were upset by the Munising Mustangs, 6-5, in Bark River.

Later in the day, Norway beat Munising for the district title, 10-0, after the Knights beat Superior Central, 11-0, in the morning semifinal game.

Rapid River fell behind, 3-0, and 5-1, before mounting a late rally. Richelle Vandeville hit a solo home run to cut it to 5-2, then Erica Rubick, Tina Olsen, and Rhiley Hubert had RBI hits to bring the Rockets to within 6-5.

But in the seventh inning, with the bases loaded and one out, the Rockets could not get the tying run home, ending the season on a force play and an infield pop fly.

Last season, the Rockets lost by one run in the districts to Newberry.
