Escanaba Polecats Earn First Wisigan Victory, 11-1

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Polecats baseball team scored five runs in the second inning and pulled away for an 11-1 win over the Tri-City (Ishpeming Marquette Negaunee) North Stars in a Wisigan League contest Wednesday at Al Ness Field.

Escanaba made five errors on defense early in the game, helping the NorthStars get their only run in the top of the second inning.

But the Polecats played better defense from there, and in the third inning, center fielder David Falish turned an 8-4 double play on a fly ball by Tri-City's C.J. Lepisto. 

Tri-City also made several defensive errors, which helped to score runs for the Polecats.

Escanaba's RBI hits in the big second inning came off the bats of Austin Young (two RBI), Kevin Bugay (one run), and Tony Peacock (one RBI).

Polecat Manager/Player Jon Bintner pitched all seven innings to earn the win, allowing one run (unearned) on four base hits. He struck out six batters and had no walks.

Offensively, Young led the way with three hits in five at-bats, with two singles and a double, along with a st0len base. Bugay had two RBI singles, including the one that ended the game on the mercy rule in the seventh inning.

Peacock and Falish both had two base hits, and they each brought in a run.
