In Minnesota Thursday night, the Class 2A baseball state quarterfinals were played in St. Cloud as Providence Academy faced Minnehaha Academy. The Providence team is coached by Escanaba native Kevin Tapani, who graduated from Escanaba High School in 1981 and went on to play for the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins.
Tapani's Providence team lost a heartbreaker in eight innings, 2-1, and finished the season with a 17-6 record. Minnehaha is 25-1. CLICK HERE to read a story done by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune about Tapani, and his years here in Escanaba.
