Charboneau Shuts Down Eskymos On Three-Hitter

ESCANABA---One day after pounding out 19 base hits against Gladstone, the Escanaba High School softball team was shut down on Friday by the Cheboygan Chiefs.

Macey Charboneau threw a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Chiefs to a 3-1 win over the Eskymos. Charboneau also helped her own cause by hitting a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, and the Eskymos couldn't get around on her fastball.

Escanaba tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mackenzie Leisner was safe on an error and Jayme Frappier singled to left.

Taylor Segorski bunted them into scoring position. Then Kayla VanPortfliet put down the suicide bunt to score Leisner.

Frappier advanced to third, but the Eskymos couldn't get her home.

Cheboygan scored an insurance run in the sixth inning on a hit by Kamie Ramsay.

For the Eskymos, Frappier had two hits and Becca Piron had one. Sam Connor threw all seven innings for the Eskymos, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
