Eskymos Sweep Rockets In Softball Doubleheader

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos played on their home field for the first time this season, and the girls cruised to a sweep of the Rapid River Rockets, 6-0 and 13-3.

It was a match-up between two teams that are ranked in the top ten in the state in their respective divisions.  Escanaba was ranked #4 in Division Two in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association poll. Rapid River was ranked fifth in Division Four.

In the opener, Escanaba won behind the pitching of Jayme Frappier, Katie Ross, and Sam Connor who struck out twelve batters to earn the shutout.

In the nightcap, Frappier threw three scoreless innings and Connor tossed a scoreless fourth inning before giving up three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Rapid River entered the game with a 15-1 record, despite injuries to key players Aslynn Brockway and Dominque Pavlat. Escanaba improves to 7-3 on the season.

The Eskymos travel to the Pulaski (Wis.) Tournament on Saturday. Rapid River is off.
