Esky Girls Fall Flat In Final Regular Season Game

ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School girls basketball team closed its regular season with a 61-51 loss to the Menominee Maroons Saturday afternoon in Escanaba.

Escanaba trailed by nine at halftime, 31-22, and never could get a spark on offense. There were 14 turnovers in the first half alone.

In the third quarter, the Maroons shot the lights out, and built a 20-point lead.

Escanaba had closed to within 42-34, but Menominee ended the third quarter on a 13-2 run to put the game away.

Madeline Anderla led the Maroons with 15 points, while Amanda Pedersen scored 13 and Amber Woods chipped in ten.

For the Eskymos, Michelle LaFave led the way with 17 points while senior Lynsey Collins shook off three early fouls and finished with 14 points.

Escanaba finishes the regular season with an 8-12 record, 2-6 in the Great Northern Conference.

Menominee finished with a 12-6 record, 5-3 in the GNC. The district tournaments begin on Monday across Michigan, but these two teams are off until Wednesday. The Eskymos will travel to Houghton while Menominee hosts either Gladstone or Kingsford.
