Marquette Redmen Finish 2-1 At Chelsea Showcase

CHELSEA, Mich.---The Marquette High School hockey team finished with a 2-1 record this weekend at the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase in Chelsea.

The Redmen won their opener on Thursday, beating North Farmington, 3-1. Brett Specker scored twice and Alex Zerbel had an empty-net goal for the Redmen.

Marquette goaltender Jon Beckman carried a shutout into the final period before North Farmington's Matt Goldin scored to cut the Redman lead to 2-1.

Marquette also beat Woodhaven, 3-1, Friday night at the Arctic Coliseum.

Zerbel scored midway through the second period to tie the game at 1-1, then with 3:04 left in the third period, Cam Verigin scored the tie-breaking goal. Luke Schwemin added a goal on the power play with 1:27 left in the game to make it a 3-1 final.

Back-up goaltender Travis Cameron was rarely tested, facing just ten shots in the game.

And then on Saturday, the Redmen lost to Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills, 4-1.

Marquette's record is now 9-9-4, after starting the season with an 0-5-1 record.
