Kamin Pitches Gem But Esky 9-10 Girls Eliminated

ESCANABA---This was a game that could very well have been a state semifinal game, or maybe even a state final...if it were not for Mother Nature.

The Escanaba 9-10 girls battled Tecumseh for nine innings on Monday at the state tournament at Lemmerand Park, and the team from southern Michigan managed to pull out a 1-0 win. The result knocked Escanaba out of the tournament because it became a single-elimination event after two full days of play were lost to heavy rains.

Escanaba pitcher Nicole Kamin threw eight innings....the maximum allowed at this age group....and did not give up a base hit. She struck out 18 batters. Ally Johnson pitched the ninth inning and gave up the only run, which scored on an error.

Tecumseh played the entire game with a bunch of infielders...no outfielders. Escanaba managed to get doubles by Carsyn Segorski and Bailey Barron, but could not score.

Meanwhile, Negaunee beat Kingsford, 11-5, in a battle of Upper Peninsula teams.
