Six Local Boys Named To All-U.P. Tennis Teams

MARQUETTE---The Upper Peninsula tennis coaches have selected the 2013 All-U.P. Teams, and the Escanaba Eskymos and Gladstone Braves had boys make the cut.

The Division One All-U.P. Team was dominated by Kingsford and Marquette players, but the top players from Escanaba and Gladstone were named to the All-Singles Teams.

Gladstone's #1 singles Aaron Parmet.
Escanaba's John Brant had a poor record this season, but was honored nonetheless because he played against the opponents' top player in every single match.

Brant routinely had long rallies with those opponents before eventually losing.

Gladstone's Aaron Parmet was the bright spot on a Braves team that finished last in the Great Northern Conference, and last at the U.P. Finals.

Parmet won his singles matches on several occassions when the rest of the Braves' boys came up short. His highlight of the season was a win over Kingsford's Caleb Harrington (a fellow All-U.P. singles pick) during a dual meet in early May.

In doubles play, Escanaba seniors Jake Eastin and Dave Fix were picked to the All-Doubles Team. The duo was Delta County's only U.P. Champion at last month's meet.

Meanwhile, Gladstone's top doubles team of Tyler Wells and Jeremy Kadish were also named to the All-U.P. Doubles Team.

Escanaba's Steve Wood and Mike Shields were honorable mention picks in doubles.

Gladstone Coach Rich Trombley, who missed this season due to health reasons, was named Honorary Coach of the Year. Dan Williams served as the Braves' interim coach this season.

The Division One Coach of the Year was Kingsford's Mark Shanks. Negaunee's Cody Tossava was the D-1 Player of the Year.
