ESCANABA---The Escanaba School Board Monday approved the hiring of two new coaches. Christa Erickson will be the varsity girls volleyball coach this fall, and Dena Fedell will be the varsity girls basketball coach this winter.
"They're both quality coaches and are both quality people," Escanaba Athletic Director Dave Wilson said. "I'm excited to have them both."
Erickson takes over the volleyball program after Bron Harmon stepped down in March after ten years of coaching...five of them as the varsity coach.
Erickson played both volleyball and basketball for the Eskymos, and played basketball at Northern Michigan University. Wilson says that Erickson will not only be the head volleyball coach, but will also help out at the lower levels in the basketball program.
Fedell has been the Escanaba girls freshmen coach for the past eight seasons. She takes over for Kelly O'Connell, who resigned in March after seven years as the girls' coach.
"I think that they're both inheriting programs that Kelly O'Connell and Bron Harmon worked very hard with," Wilson said. "I don't think the cupboard is bare at all. They will meet with the girls this week and get their summer programs going."
