Big Comeback Falls Short For JV Braves In Calumet

CALUMET---The Gladstone High School junior varsity football team tried to pull off a miracle rally in the fourth quarter Friday, but lost to the Calumet Copper Kings, 32-26.

Gladstone scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter after falling behind, 32-6.

But a last gasp effort to tie the game ended in the final seconds as quarterback Adam Scheeneman was sacked while trying to get off a desperation heave.

T.J. Vanderlinden scored on a 76-yard touchdown run for the Braves in the first half to close his team's deficit to 8-6 at the time.

But Gladstone did not score again until the second half. Quarterback Adam Scheeneman threw touchdown passes of 40 yards to Bobby Beauchamp and 47 yards to T.J. Vanderlinden. And as part of the Braves' rally, Derek Vanderlinden scored on a 14-yard touchdown run from the guard position.

But the Gladstone JV's, dealing with the loss of Hunter Garling, Kyle Pouliot, and Matt Chenier (all who were called up to the varsity team) could not get the miracle finish.

The Braves finished the JV season with an 0-9 record.
