In Tuesday's match, the Eskymos relied on strong play at the net, and on the work of their libero. Ashley Cook was strong in the back row, and when she went behind the service line, good things happened for Escanaba. At the end of the second game, Negaunee led, 22-16, and it looked like the Miners might tie the match. But Cook sent serve after serve just over the top of the net, and the Eskymos fed off those serves for a "side out" and eight straight points to win, 25-22. Escanaba was in control from the beginning of the third game, taking an 11-5 lead. And at the end, there was Cook again doing the serving. The result: four straight points to take a 21-19 game into a 25-19 victory. A nice way to start Eskymo Homecoming Week. Escanaba hosts Gladsone Thursday night at 7:00.
