Escanaba School Board Reinstates EHS Gymnastics
ESCANABA---The Escanaba School Board voted 5-2 Monday night to reinstate girls gymnastics at the Escanaba High School. The sport was cut back in the spring to save roughly $24,000 a year in the district's budget. This time, gymnastics will be a self-funded sport, and a committee has been formed to apply for 501C non-profit status. The school board restored the sport over the objections of Superintendent Michelle LeMire, who reccommended that gymnastics remain eliminated. Gymnastics becomes Escanaba's fourth self-funded sport, along with baseball, bowling, and hockey. Pictured above: Erin Mattson in the "all-around" on the beam last season.
