Escanaba Tops Gladstone In Rivalry Tennis Match
ESCANABA----It was "double duty" for the Escanaba High School girls tennis team on Monday, and despite playing under hot, humid conditions, the girls came through twice. Escanaba beat Munising, 7-1, and then followed up with a 7-1 win over Gladstone. The Eskymos added to their early-season wins over Marquette and Menominee to improve to 4-0 in dual matches. But Eskymo Coach Dennis Leuneburg says there's work to be done. Leuneburg was expecially happy with the girls' inensity against Gladstone. "The girls seemed to flip a switch for us," he said. "I was real happy with the doubles teams. And believe me, Gladstone will be better by the end of the year. They always are." The Escanaba girls face tougher opponents in Kingsford, West Iron County, and Negaunee over the next two weeks. Kingsford is Tuesday's opponent. "We will not be overwhelmed," Lueneburg said. "Tested. But not overwhelmed." Click the thumbnails in the ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS box to see photos and videos from the Escanaba-Gladstone match. |
