Bay College Cross Country Teams Open '24 Season

PORT HURON – The Bay Norse Cross Country Teams opened their season at the All-MCCAA Conference Meet hosted by St. Clair County Community College. The women finished ninth out of 12 teams while the men placed tenth out of 16.
On the women's side, Siena Lingle (FR, Skandia, MI) finished in the top third of the field, coming across the line in 30th place out of 95 runners.
Lingle posted a 5K time of 23:28.6 in her first collegiate race. Just behind her, and also getting her first taste of cross country at the collegiate level was Grace Von Wormer (FR, Garden, MI) whose time of 23:55.1 was good enough for 34th place.
Kayla Farnes (FR, Escanaba, MI) was the third runner to cross the line with a time of 25:00.7. Veronica Spreitzer (SO, Escanaba, MI) posted a time of 26:22.5 and Natalie Spreitzer (FR, Escanaba, MI) rounded out the team scoring for the Norse, with a time of 27:49.0.
Hattie Cota (SO, Munising, MI) finished her day with a time of 27:53.9 while Devyin Lusardi (SO, Stephenson, MI) posted a time of 29:53.9.
Grand Rapids won the meet with a team score of 60. Bay finished with a score of 210, besting Kellogg CC (229), Montcalm CC (232), and Kirtland CC (279).
Tanner Howes (FR., Gladstone, MI) had a strong showing for the men, finishing just outside the top ten with an 8K time of 29:15.4, which was good enough for 14th place. Ben Smith (FR, Gladstone, MI) finished with a time of 34:19.7 while Ethan Lawrence (FR, Republic, MI) was just behind him with a time of 34:46.6.
Cameron Smith (FR, Escanaba, MI) was the next to finish the race for Bay with a time of 37:04.6. Dustin Brewster (SO, Manistique, MI) rounded out the team scoring for Bay in 91st with a time of 38:51.2. Oren Marcoe (FR, Daggett, MI) finished his day with a time of 41:47.6.
"I thought our team did well today considering they had a very, very tough week of training this week," said Head Cross Country Coach Scott Carhoun. "I couldn't be more proud of their efforts up to this point, and I am looking forward to seeing they're growth as we head into September and October."
The Norse return to action with the Northern Conference Meet hosted by Muskegon Community College on September 20.
