RAPID RIVER---Spencer Coldren scored 22 points and Spanish exchange student Lluis Alloza added 20 as the Stephenson Eagles boys basketball team ran past the Rapid River Rockets, 64-53, Tuesday night in Rapid River. The Eagles led for nearly the entire game, often attacking the rim and playing strong defense on the Rapid River interior game. ![]() As for Alloza, he was strong on the rebounding glass, and he had a smooth touch on his jump shot as he scored eight of his 20 points in the third quarter. The Eagles held off a pair of Rocket runs in the second half, including one spurt that brought Rapid River to within six points. The Rockets couldn't make enough of their inside baskets, or free throws, however, to get over the hump. Kodey Goldi led the Rockets with 16 points, but the Eagle defense made him earn every point. Rease Dawley had 13 points and Ian Sundling was held to eleven points. For Stephenson, besides the big numbers from Coldren and Alloza, Kuehnau added ten points from the point guard position. Stephenson improved to 5-4 on the season and will play at Engadine Thursday night. Rapid River fell to 6-4 and the Rockets will play at Superior Central Friday night. ![]() |
