Spanish Exchange Student Leads Eagles Past BR-H

HARRIS---Spanish foreign exchange student Lluis Alloza scored 22 points to lead the Stephenson Eagles to a 52-32 win over the Bark River-Harris Broncos Monday night in Harris. BR-H led after the first quarter, 12-8, as Trevor Lippens scored eight points inside. But Lippens didn't score another point all night as the Eagles switched to a zone defense and scored multiple transition baskets, mostly by Alloza off passes with Spencer Coldrun.  "We knew they had some bigs, and they can shoot some threes," Coldrun said. "We just wanted to be out there and play some good defense like we usually do, and just stop them all around." Stephenson Coach Christian Londo switched to a 1-3-1 zone defense after that rough first quarter, and it worked, as the Broncos scored just 20 points the rest of the night. "We were struggling a little bit in the 'man' and (Logan) Getloff was taking it to us, and so was Lippens there," Londo said. "So we switched it up. That kind of changed the game for us. When we are able to turn defense into offense, it's good for us." Zack Schwartz had nine points, and Coldrun added six points (to go along with his assists) for the Eagles. Freshman Owen Kuehnau added seven points. BR-H got nine points from Anthony Miley, eight from Lippens, and seven from Getzloff. Bark River-Harris fell to 1-4 on the season. Stephenson improved to 4-3.  |
