NMU Hockey Team Swept By Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio---The No. 19-ranked Northern Michigan University hockey team was swept by Ohio State on Saturday as the Buckeyes defeated the Wildcats for the second night in a row. OSU scored two third period goals to defeat the ‘Cats 4-2.
NMU is now 4-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Buckeyes improve to 4-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference.

Sophomore forward Ryan Daugherty gave NMU the 1-0 lead 9:43 into the game with an unassisted goal for his team-leading fifth of the season.
Ohio State tied up the game 1:04 into the second with a power-play tally by Riley Simpson. Ryan Dzingel added to the lead with a five on three power-play goal 1:40 later.
Senior defenseman Scott Macaulay scored his second of the season to tie the game at two 6:34 into the second on a five on three power play. Assisting on the goal was junior forward Stephan Vigier and Daugherty.
Alex Szczechura scored the game-winner 1:50 into the third. Chris Crane made it a two-goal lead 8:06 into the frame for the final tally of the game.
The Buckeyes outshot NMU 42-14. Junior goaltender Jared Coreau (pictured) had a season-high 38 saves and is now 4-6-2 on the season.
NMU took nine penalties for 29 minutes while OSU had six penalties for 23 minutes. The ‘Cats were 1-for-4 on the man advantage and the Buckeyes were 2-for-8.
Northern hosts Alaska over the Thanksgiving weekend from the Berry Events Center. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. both nights.
