Shea, Indians Beat Trenton; State Title Game Next
![]() GLADWIN---Carson Shea threw a complete-game six-hitter Friday night to lead the Gladstone Indians to a 9-4 win over the Trenton Tribe at the American Legion state tournament in Gladwin. The win moved the Indians into the state championship game as they try to win their third straight Class A title. The Indians grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on two walks, a hit battsman, and a sacrifice fly by Ben Kelly. A second run scored on a Caden Alworden groundout. Gladstone added a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Ian Schwalbach, and the Indians went ahead, 4-0, on an error on a Blake Krouth grounder. The Tribe scored a run against Shea in the top of the fourth inning on three base hits, but he got out of further trouble with a strikeout. Then Gladstone added ton its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Parker Frappier singled home a run. A Dan Martin double play grounder scored another run, giving the Indians a 6-1 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians put the game away as Cody Frappier singled home a run and Shea doubled home two more, making it a 9-1 game. Three errors helped to plate three Trenton runs in the seventh inning, but Shea got a line drive to Schwalbach in center field to end the game on his 105th and final pitch. Shea gave up six hits, four runs (one earned), struck out three and walked one. Gladstone (20-7) will try for its third straight state championship on Saturday against either Trenton or Rosebush. Those two teams play at 10:00 Saturday morning. The championship game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
