Carney Boys Play On Another Big Stage: The Palace!
![]() AUBURN HILLS, Mich.---They have spent literally thousands of hours dribbling and shooting the ball inside the green, yellow, and white Carney-Nadeau High School Gym. Throughout their lives, Lucas Moreau and Wade Schetter have probably spent as much time with a basketball in their hands as they have sitting at the dinner table. ![]()

That was a team thing. But this Saturday, it was an "individual thing" as the two boys from one of the smallest schools in all of Michigan stepped onto the floor of the Palace of Auburn Hills. Yep, two Carney boys, invited to play on the same floor where the Detroit Pistons play, and where some of the world's best basketball players have played over the years. Moreau was a member of the "White" team at the Michigan High School Basketball Coaches Association's All-Star Basketball Festival. It was the 33rd year for the event. Schetter, a junior, couldn't play in that All-Star game, but he was invited to compete in the three-point shooting contest. "It was a great experience playing with the best of the best," Moreau said. "It was great to meet some new guys, and having some fun." "I didn't shoot as well as I pictured myself (shooting)," Schetter said. "Nevertheless, I just had an experience of a lifetime and I am proud to represent my whole area." Some other Yoopers also made the long trip downstate. Munising senior Kenya Oas played on the "Black Team" against Moreau. ![]()

"Watching Luke and Kenya play was fun," Schetter said. "And also shooting alongside Dillon Gordon was great. He is one of the best shooters I have ever played with." In the girls game, Houghton's Taylor Dillinger and Joey Carroll competed, as did Engadine's Morgan MacArthur and St. Ignace's Lauren Goldthorpe. For Moreau, it was a great way to end his basketball career. He does not plan to play college basketball. Instead, Moreau plans to focus on his academic studies at college this fall. "It was really nice to get on the floor one last time representing my school," Moreau said. "And playing at the Palace just adds to that." And if all goes well, Schetter might just be back here at the Palace next summer. "It's all pretty cool," Schetter said. "I am glad to say that I participated in it."
