Escanaba Midget BB Sweep Series From Ontonagon
![]() This story was written by Jodi Westerberg ESCANABA - The Escanaba EMP Midget BB hockey team won a pair of games against the Ontonagon Midget BB hockey team in CUP League action Saturday at the Hannahville Ice & Turf in Wells.
EMP won the first game 3 to 2.
In the first period, EMP's defenseman Cody Vandermissen struck first by taking a solid shot, off of a pass from Christer Carne. Ontonagon's Garret Parker tied the score, to make it 1 to 1, at the end of the first period.
In the second period, Parker scored again for Ontonogan, assisted by Michael Turunen and Tyler Dean. Ontonagon led 2 to 1, after the second period.
In the third period, Carne chased down a loose puck. He beat out Ontonagon's defender to score the unassisted goal, tying up the game 2 to 2. With 2:27 left in the third period, Noah Olsen scored a nice top-shelf goal, off of a pass from Carne. EMP held on to win.
EMP goalie Garrett Parlett had 14 saves in the game, while Ontonagon's goalie Tristan Lorendo, had 20 saves. EMP had 17 minutes of penalties in the game, including a game misconduct. Ontonagon had 22 minutes of penalties.
EMP won the second game 5 to 2.
EMP's hard-hit defensive shots were too much for Ontonagon's goalie to stop, as four out of the five goals scored by EMP, were from three of their defensemen.
EMP's defenseman, Spencer Murray, scored first, with a hard shot, unassisted. Ontonagon's Alex Jones, tied up the game, making it 1 to 1, right before the end of the first period. Parker assisted on the goal.
In the second period, it was Murray who struck again, with his second goal, assisted by Carne. Less than 11 seconds later, EMP's Lucas Weinert scored with a solid shot. Carne contributed with his second assist of the game.
EMP's Kyle Mattson then fired in a hard slap shot, right from the blue line, unassisted. Olsen scored another top-shelf goal, with great team work coming from Vandermissen and Weinert. Parker scored for Ontonagon, assisted by Richard Olszewski and Zack Somero. Both teams were scoreless in the third period. EMP won the game 5 to 2.
EMP's goalie Aaron Young had 22 saves in the game, while Ontonagon's goalie Lorendo had 24 saves. EMP had 10 minutes of penalties in the game. Ontonagon had 24 minutes of penalties.

On Friday, their first game will be against Ontonogan at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, EMP faces Calumet at 9:45 a.m., and Negaunee at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the semifinals are at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., and the ampionship game is scheduled to be played at 4:30 p.m. Game times are all Central time. |
