GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School softball team got off to a good start on Wednesday as the district tournament began.
The Braves beat the Houghton Gremlins, 16-0, in four innings, in the quarterfinals.
Tinner Sharon retired all twelve batters she faced for a perfect game in the mercy-shortened contest.
She struck out ten of the batters.
Lexi Hongisto ripped a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the contest.
Gladstone will host Negaunee in the semifinals on Friday. The Miners shut out Westwood, 10-0, in another quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Friday's game starts at 2:00.
In the other half of the Division Three bracket, Manistique shut out Calumet, 6-0, and Gwinn outslugged Iron Mountain, 24-20.
So the Emeralds and Model Towners will meet in the second semifinal Friday afternoon at 4:00 in Gladstone.
