GLADSTONE--- The Gladstone Braves honored their best with a cookout and awards ceremony at Don Olsen Field on Wednesday.
Dozens of supporters came to enjoy burgers and hot dogs and congratulate the winners under mostly sunny conditions at the field.
Senior pitcher Sam Pouliot was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player by the team's coaches.
The team's Most Valuable Hitter was sophomore Hunter Garling, who also won All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors as a Utility player.
The team's Most Valuable Pitcher was junior Jake Pederson, and the team's Most Improved Player was senior Christian Tackman.
And senior center fielder Christian Groleau was picked as the team's best defensive player.
The team's final award was the "Little I" award, given to the player who puts the team before himself and plays with good sportmanship.
That award went to senior first basemen Tommy Bailey.
Gladstone manager Don Lauscher handed out varsity letters and pins to the players, hugging each of them and telling spectators a little bit about each of the boys.
Gladstone's Activites Director Matt Houle spoke for several minutes about the team's accomplishments this Spring. He told the players that many schools never make it to the Final Four and many only dream of the opportunity.
Gladstone, in just its second year of varsity baseball, had a 29-5 record this season, advancing to the state semifinals last weekend at Michigan State University.
Lauscher was selected as the All-District and All-Region Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.
