The softball team split a doubleheader with Traverse City St. Francis on Friday, winning the first game, 5-0, and losing the nightcap, 4-3. But the girls had their entire tournament in Reed City washed out on Saturday.

Jerry Cvengros, who coached the Escanaba High School football team to its only state championship in 1981, died Monday night in East Lansing. He was 80 years old. Cvengros also served as EHS athletic director and as the high school principal during his 30 years in Escanaba. He also worked for the Michigan High School Athletic Association for 13 years. The award has been given out in high schools across the country since 2003, and in Escanaba, it has been awarded the last several years.
