The Marquette High School boys soccer team opened the 2025 season with five matches against strong downstate competition this weekend, and ended up winning three matches, losing one, and another ending in a scoreless draw. One of the wins was against Fruitport, the team that eliminated Marquette in the regionals in each of the past two years.
The Marquette Sentinels edged the Escanaba Eskymos to win the MHSAA Division One boys UP championship on Wednesday at the Sage Run Golf Course. The Sentinels won by eleven strokes (311-322), to repeat as UP Champions. Junior Boden Moore shot a two-under 70 to win medalist honors. Westwood senior Tanner Annala was runner-up, finishing three strokes back with a 73, and Iron Mountain’s Cooper Pigeon was third with a 77. There was plenty of drama Thursday night as the Gladstone Braves met the Marquette Sentinels in high school baseball at Gerard Haley Field. In a game that saw more errors than base hits or runs, the Braves rallied on their final out to force extra innings and then beat Marquette, 5-3, in the eighth inning.
