ALL WET: Rain Gets Better Of Eskymos, Marines
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos and Marinette Marines managed to play four innings of baseball on Monday before Mother Nature got the upper hand in a game that ended in a 5-5 tie. The game was called after a 35-minute rain delay where they dumped sand on the field to get it ready for play, but another rain shower ended the evening. The Marines scored three runs in the first inning off of Escanaba starting pitcher C.J. Barron on an RBI double by Adam Wahl and a two-run double by Spencer Hipke. As the rain intensified, the Eskymos scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning without hitting a ball out of the infield. Marinette pitchers James Jagielski and Matt Eldredge had trouble throwing strikes because of a muddy mound and wet ball. During the rain delay, the kids humored themselves by playing games of scissors and horse. The evening started with Parent's Night ceremonies for the Eskymos. Escanaba (17-12) hosts North Central in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on WUPF-FM (Eagle 107.3), starting at 4:00.
